Directions

  • Step one

Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray two 8-inch round pans with baking spray.

  • Step two

Whisk cake mix, milk, melted butter and eggs together in a large bowl until well blended, about a minute.

  • Step three

Pour batter into pans and bake 24 to 28 minutes, until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool on wire rack 15 minutes. Remove from pans and cool completely.

  • Step four

Melt candy melts according to package directions. Pour melted candy into piping bag or freezer bag. Cut off a very small corner of the bag. Line a baking sheet with waxed paper and place pretzels on paper. Drizzle melted candy on pretzels starting 1-inch from the bottom to make tree shapes. Get creative and fun, these should look unique, not perfect! Add some nonpareils or sanding sugar if you like. Refrigerate 10 minutes, until candy is hardened.

  • Step five

Place one cooled cake layer on serving plate. Spread about 1/2-cup frosting on first layer. Top with second cake layer. Frost entire cake with remaining frosting. Press coconut around top and sides of cake.

  • Step six

Decorate the top of the cake with nonpareils, sanding sugar and sugar crystals to look like snow. Just before serving, poke the trees into the top of the winter wonderland coconut cake.
