Directions

Step one
Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray two 8-inch round pans with baking spray.
-
Step two
Whisk cake mix, 1 cup milk, eggs, and melted butter together in a large bowl until well blended, about 1 minute. Pour into pans.
-
Step three
Bake 24 to 28 minutes, until toothpick inserted in centers comes out clean. Cool on wire rack 15 minutes. Remove from pans and cool completely.
-
Step four
PUDDING FILLING: Whisk together pudding mix and 1/2-cup milk in small bowl until blended. Set aside to thicken. Place 14 vanilla wafers in a resealable bag; crush to coarse crumbs.
-
Step five
Pour heavy cream into large bowl and beat with an electric mixer on high speed until stiff peaks form, about 2 minutes. Scoop 2 tablespoons buttercream into whipped cream and mix on low just until blended.
-
Step six
Place one cooled cake layer on serving plate. Spread vanilla pudding evenly over and top with 12 slices of banana. Sprinkle 1/4-cup crushed vanilla wafers over and place second cake layer on top of first. Frost entire cake with remaining buttercream frosting. Press remaining crushed wafers on side of cake.
-
Step seven
Decorate top of cake with whipped cream, whole vanilla wafers, and sliced bananas. Slice, serve, and enjoy!
